DescolonizARTE BERINO

Youth and community in Berino, NM

Growing as a community with space for everyone starts with the people and sometimes youth are the most willing to take the chance to make a change. Big changes can happen with big walls, and we had the opportunity to collaborate with youth in the community of Berino in DAC to paint a wall that is around 700ft square. After several workshops about social justice and civic engagement, youth along with local artists in Berino designed a wall that would represent their community. Together we identified environmental and historical features of their community and worked hard to plasm an image that would represent this. The process of designing, painting and celebrating the mural was beautiful and resourceful. The community came together to support their youth, we will continue working closely with this community and the youth to proceed in supporting them to make the change they want to see.
